Position: Eastern Production Supervisor

FLSA Status: Exempt


Job Overview:

Our production process has two distinct steps - roasting and packaging. The entire manufacturing process in our roastery is managed by an operations manager that works closely with a roasting supervisor and a production supervisor.


The production supervisor leads the team of people that are processing all roasted coffee - blending, packaging, and shipping. They manage the daily production schedule and product materials inventory, as well as any issues that arise in the production phase of our manufacturing. They assist the operations manager with personnel management by collaboratively participating in hiring, reviews, and other staffing management.


Although there is some personnel management, the production supervisor is the subject matter and systems specialist. They are experts in the way that we produce, package, and ship roasted coffee and how this function works in our overall business strategy. This person is a self-starter but works proficiently in a team, they are able to focus on day-to-day issues without losing focus on our bigger goals, they are able to help team members help each other, and they are professionally engaged with the team and company.

Applicants for this position must have some relevant manufacturing or business management   experience, preferably 5+ years. Ideally they have some experience managing people and inventory. Any warehouse, commercial manufacturing, or coffee experience is beneficial.

We're seeking a candidate that thrives in a challenging, all hands on deck environment. This position is located in a shared office environment that may accommodate as many as 4 employees at any one time.  The candidate must be able to multitask and perform effectively with frequent and varied distractions in what is sometimes a noisy environment.

Job Duties:

Personnel Management:

  • Motivate and inspire an engaged team of over a dozen people.
  • Facilitate departmental and individual goal setting in alignment with the Company Plan through Strategic planning sessions
  • Responsible for quarterly and annual employee performance assessments 



  • Helping facilitate regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for working area conditions being safe, clean, and efficient.
  • Helping with  weekly and monthly facility walk-throughs to build punch lists for warehouse needs.


Inventory Management:

  • Manage weekly materials usage, counts, PO generation
  • Create and maintain organization and count systems to minimize inventory variance
  • Responsible for inventory counts and variances


ERP Management:

  • Managing processes and process documentation for daily production fulfillment
  • Troubleshoot and solve production or order exceptions.
  • Collaborate with IT to constantly improve ERP (NetSuite) systems.



  • Manufacturing experience
  • Valid driver’s license 


Preferred Skills:

  • Manufacturing or Food Processing education or experience
  • Warehouse management
  • Personnel management
  • Barista or Specialty Coffee experience
  • Inventory control systems experience


90-Day Goals:

  • Proficient with inventory control and work processes
  • High competence with leading weekly meetings
  • Consistently using departmental scorecards to track key metrics
  • Participate in a quarterly strategic meeting
  • Forklift certification

Physical requirements of this position:

Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision.

  • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

  • Employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.

  • Employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.,

  • Employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).


The conditions the employee will be subject to in this position.

  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
